Opera Month details

So I've been to an operetta, but I've not gone to an opera yet in opera month. My plans for the year are sort of falling apart. I'm getting busier and busier with school and outside projects, and things I wanted to do on my own (this month by month book) are falling to the wayside.

anyway, this is me attempting to get some opera knowledge. Read through this wiki and found lots of lovely aria recordings and links through it. The site that I've been enjoying the most out of my minimal research is Historic Opera. It's tons of beautiful postcards and photographs from a billion years ago.

and this one

Cool, right?

Anyway, tonight I made a point to read about L'Orfeo which is considered by many to be the first major opera. It was written in 1607 by Monteverdi. That's pretty old, right? It sounds pretty fascinating, and I'm gonna make a point to listen to it at Bobst tomorrow after my Meridian 13 News meeting.

And speaking of M13N, I need to get back to working on material for that.

later!

good little student

I went home last night I realized I didn't have any homework due for a week. It was a pretty amazing feeling. I can start in on a lot of things tonight and probably have all of next week written by Monday. Awesome.

M13N is meeting tomorrow instead of Saturday this week. Peters is going out of town this weekend. That means i have to write a short song and two scenes tonight, but that shouldn't be a problem.

What I'm really focused right now is getting things sorted for this singer showcase I'm doing at the Duplex at the end of the month. I have to sell some tickets for it, but more than that, Brandon and I need to come up with a name and make sure we have enough songs put together for it. Shouldn't be too hard since country songs are easy to write, but we do need to work on it and just make sure everything is organized. It's just two weeks away.

Ugh. I can't really think of anything else to write today. I'm just bored and in Bobst right now waiting for my next class to start up. Gonna bounce. I'll write a real entry later today.

Opera Month, etc

Well, I'm back to my normal self I think. I've done some thinking and also just accomplished a lot of cool stuff and have more cool stuff lined up. I feel like I'm over the gunk I was going through before. Didn't take too long. :-)

Anyway! Yoga month has ended. I'll probably go back and try more of the yoga related things I wanted to do but didn't get to while dealing with my flu/gloominess. Opera month is now in full swing. I've attended a concert performance of Kern and Hammerstein operetta Music in the Air, but I need to get to a real opera. I listened to Madama Butterfly this morning as I got ready for my day, and it made me think of high school and how I used to play the great Act I duet from that every morning as I did my hair. Tomorrow, if I have time, I'd like to give this a try. I also will keep listening to more operas and try to listen to a lot that I don't know, and I will of course get to the Met for two or three at least. The Met's website has this awesome feature that you can subscribe to as well, that allows you to watch hd broadcasts of operas and listen to tons of recordings. I might have to give it a whirl this month. Seems like it'd make a really cool gift for the Colonel, too. Check it out!

In other news, I started looking around for blogging advice to share with my fellow Meridian 13 News writers as we dive into the world of internet self promotion. I found a great article on the Slate's website. Meridian 13 News had a meeting this morning to plan out our second episode, because OUR FIRST ONE IS UP AND RUNNING AS OF TODAY!!!!! Tell your friends.

That's all for now. Have to get back to writing. More Meridian 13 News is on its way, and the Gingersnaps will soon be churning out new scenes and songs.
