The weather is amazing today in NYC. I'm obsessed. I left the house this morning in a sundress and a scarf worried that I might get cold, but the sunshine has been nice, and the whole day has felt wonderful. Went to a podcast meeting. Our next episode is coming along nicely, and I'm building the website, which I think is looking very professional! I just have to figure out where to host it and how to upload it once I've finished it. Dimitri's cousin made us a new logo, and it's hilarious, but looks completely legit at first glance. I think that adds to the humore of it. Anyway, I should put it up on that blog later today as well.
I went to school and wrote a bit and then I went to a sidewalk cafe for brunch, the best meal you can ever have. Dan and Paul joined me and we chatted for an hour or so and just soaked in the sunlight. I'm back at school now, but I might go to the library.
I finished reading Not Since Carrie on the train this morning, and I'd like to have something else to read on the train on my way home later. I'm thinking Everything Was Possible. I'm loving non-fiction Broadway books lately. I should get back to reading novels soon, but I just can't put these other things down. I love theatre too much.
Speaking of, I saw 9 to 5 last night. Apart from Shrek and Story of My Life, I've seen all of the new musicals this season. Dan still thinks Billy Elliott is the best, but I'm loving me some Next to Normal. Can't stop listening to it, and reading the review in the Times almost made me cry. I was glad that Brantley felt the same as me about something for once, and it was really cool to read a love letter to something that I so adore. I hope that the reviews help the ticket sales. I should try to see it again soon.
I want to go to some shows this week, but I've got my Composers, Choreographers, and Designers showcase this week, and every evening is either a performance, tech, or dress rehearsal. Anyway, if you want info on that, please email me, because the shows are this coming weekend and they are free! I'm really excited for the first rehearsal with the musicians Monday night. It'll be cool to see how our electronic track lines up with the live performers. Hopefully it's not a big train wreck. I think it should work out fine though. Felice has been amazing to work with on this, and she's put in so much time and created some great material.
This weather gets me giddy. I want to go to musuems and sit in parks and just soak in the sun all day long. It's so nice to leave my coat at home. The weather isn't the real reason I know spring is finally here though. Today Mom called me and made me listen to bagpipes over the phone, which is how I know that the Scottish Festival is up and running in my home town! That's the truest sign of spring for me. I miss the Scottish Festival and wish I was there right now. I love watching the sheep dog trials and listening to the different pipe bands compete. It's nice that she calls me and lets me hear them over the phone though.
I wish wish wish that I could go to the beach. I'm very much ready to put my feet in the ocean, but it's just not that warm yet here and won't be for a couple more months really. Dan's brother Brian invited us to Virginia to see West Side Story earlier in the year, but we won't be making it down there. Schedule and awkwardness in general prevent it, but I bet it's lovely, and I would really enjoy seeing the show. I'll make due with the tiny little production that's happening at the Palace I suppose, although there's something magical about seeing theatre that's put on with a budget. When it's pulled off despite any sorts of financial limitations that might be present, it's like a double victory. The story shines and all of the dozens of people who made it happen shine too.
Right! I must finish the bridge of this song and then it's off to the library! Grey Gardens party tonight to watch the new HBO film. Hope it's as good as the trailer makes it look.
cheers!
